Hello again,
Ubuntu was able to recognize the disk. The File Manager app in background has what seems to be the directory i want to try to browse; however, when I select that Windows folder I get a loading icon which lasts 15 secs or so and then it stops and nothing happens. I am not sure where to go from here. Sorry for the picture quality.
Thanks in advance,
Randall

Hi,
Just like your PC, Ubuntu can also see the disk - the fact that it recognizes it as a disk it not such an improveent.
Based on the screenshot, I can see two issues:
- it notices over 39 million bad secods. That's a lot and your existing HDD may fail soon
- The partition is not mounted and the files cannot be browsed thre. You may attempt to manully mount it by pressing the so called play button (>) but no guarantee.
If the partition is not mounted, there is no way to be access, I am afraid.

I had already tried to mount the disc before making the last post, and that was unsuccessful. Not sure why that picture was posted so many times lol; please excuse my novice styles. I was afraid you were going to say that it had to be mounted to browse. Almost everything i needed was backed up on a USB HD except for some pictures of my deceased step dad that I had recently moved to the laptop and had not yet backed them up. So I am really sad to hear this. I seem to remember it having the option to repair the partition but I didnt want to try that unless last option. I will try to do the repair tho I dont have high hopes of success using that method either. Who knows maybe will let me mount the drive then but again I agree and think I am SOL. Thank you for your time and responses. If by some miracle I succeed I will let you know.
Reguards and Cheers,
Randall

Hello @nniikkiizziimm
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community.
Your issue is similar to the ones discussed in the thread above. There is TKB article already available => https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Knowledge-Base/Storage-Hard-Disk-Drive-corruption-and-replac...
I checked it and the error code you provided tells me that the hard disk drive (HDD) has failed. Since this is faulty HDD/hardware component, you will probably not be able to recover your files. If you want to attempt data recovery, please let me know and I may post additional instructions.
The code also tells me your warranty has expired.
Here are your options on fixing the problem:
If your computer is with warranty period expired, you will need to replace the faulty HDD - buy new one on your own. There are variety of options - vendors you can choose from. You can get it online or from PC retail store, or from HP parts store http://partsurfer.hp.com/
You need HDD with the very same size as the current one or bigger (small will not work) - e.g. if your current HDD is with 500 GB capacity, your new HDD/SDD must also be 500 GB or with bigger capacity. I recommend you consider HDDs with RPM 7200 as they as slightly faster, 5400 RPM is slower >> https://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/rpm.htm
You may also consider buying a solid state drive (SSD) :
*** How to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD or SSD : please, find info and instruction in your computer's manual or watch YouTube videos examples for your HP model.
Here is the service manual for your model
>> http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05493762
page 40/48
If you do not want to do this on your own, please bring the computer (or ship it) to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:

>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/store-finder/find.do?bs=SR4&type=authorized
Last part - once you replace the faulty component - you will need to reinstall back your operating system - Windows or another. Let me know if you need assistance on reinstalling back your operating system
Please, let me know how it goes and do post back if you need assistance. Looking forward to your feeback/reply.

Faced a similar issue! don't worry, I have a simple fix for you.
First let's login to your computer in recovery mode if you are not able to login to your administrator account.
Go to the disk where you have placed all the OS files like where you have installed windows/linux package and remove unnecessary files, folders or move them to another location and make it spam free.
As a second step, remove any outdated antivirus software if installed, and also remove any newly installed sofware packages. Just select them folder of the software and delete them, app will be uninstlled automatically.
Restart your PC and test it again.
Thanks & Regards,
Manoj
