A big part of my frustration is that video drivers quickly become obsolete. New software, Windows updates, new versions of old software have new needs that old drivers don't live up to, let alone the need for bug fixes. Nvidia, for instance, constantly works on their drivers to tweak them, do bug fixes, handle new uses, and while ATI doesn't seem to be quite as proactive, they have released many updates in the last 2 or so years.

Curious - since you disabled the Intel graphics, what happens when you try to install the latest ATI graphics driver?
BTW, what will you do when you run into software that won't run properly on ATI? For instance, Chrome using hardware accelleration has been known to TDR and BSOD on ATI drivers.

@pbug56 - no such thing with my Chrome and my AMD 6770m, works just fine. and its not just cos I'm using the drivers from 2012 for 6700m and not the ones HP gives for 6770m from 2011. (notice I mention 6700 and 6770 on purpose)
From 6137tx's earlier post in this forum you can find the following drivers which are from 2012 (1 year later than the ones HP has on their website for 6770m, at least for my HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo). The drivers are v9.002.0.0000 (9.002-120928m-148226C-ATI) as opposed to the 2011 HP ones which are 8.882.2.3000 (8.882.2.3-110930a-126477C-HP). Don't worry if your Win warns you that you have a 6770m and not a 6700m ... they're basically the same thing and at least on my pc the drivers for 6700m work just fine, although I have a 6770m
For 32 bit: http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/mobile/12-10_mobility_vista_win7_win8_32_dd_ccc_whql_net4.exe
For 64 bit: http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/mobile/12-10_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql_net4.exe
Hope that helps!
PS
HP PLEASE UPDATE THOSE PREHISTORIC DRIVERS FROM 2011 FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!

"what happens when you try to install the latest ATI graphics driver?"
When i try install newest driver from amd site it say "The driver is incompatible with your device, please turn on manufacturer.."
Crome - im using it and never had problems with it.
Thank you, nematsvehclav! Will try those drivers.
I also found older post how to install newest drivers from amd site. But im not sure if its safe to do.:)
What u think about it? Can it harm my device if i try it?

Possible solution mentioned in that post:
"you can force install the newest drivers through the device manager by manually selecting a file with the driver .inf in it as the driver source. In other words, do not use the .exe downloaded driver, unpack it with winrar or similar and point the installer to that location as the driver. Uncheck the "show only compatible devices" and force it to accept the unpacked driver."

So why don't you get the Incompatible message?
As to not crashing, if you have the hybrid driver set to either use Intel drivers for Chrome OR turn off hardware accelleration for Chrome you don't get the TDR error. But that defeats one of the reasons for having the ATI graphics chip.
I assume that you've disabled the Intel chip?

You can certainly try that method, there's no risk. Eventually, if it does not work, just revert back to the old driver, or should I say 'Roll back' as device manager calls it. The worst that could happen is that it does not work so give it a try, but make sure that things actually work when I have the new drivers installed, cos I did once manage to get some new drivers on but, for example, I had no more control over my screen brightness. So although the numbers will tell you that you have a newer version (numerically) of the drivers, they might still not be fully compatible. That's why HP recommend using their own software for AMD GPUs.
Another thing you need to observe is the fact that, at least I cannot find any drivers on AMD's site. All I can find when I search for my 6770m [... which falls in the Notebook graphics/Radeon HD series/Radepm HD 6xxxM series/ and then I go for Win 7x64, cos there's no way I'd use the crap called Win 8 ...] is the AMD Mobility Radeon™ Driver Verification Tool as well as some Beta stuff, which you use at your own risk (for me personally it does not work). And that tool only verifies whether or not your GPU is compatible, it does not actually contain the driver software as far as I know, so it does not even bother, in my case, to go further and download it. But then again from other third party sites you might be able to download the actual Stable version of the latest drivers and then try the device manager method.
Hope that helps!

HP UPDATE your stuff PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually get pop-ups from the driver set telling me there are new ATI drivers available, but if I try to install them, the incompatible message pops up.
I've been complaining to HP. I recently had an odd request from HP case management - to find them the proper drivers. Problem is, they're not posted because the OEM - HP, has to get them directly from ATI/AMD for hybrid systems. From what I can see, AMD does build them, and then HP repackages them. Why HP doesn't keep up when they constantly issue new systems with new drivers is a mystery to me - they should have a team doing this all the time. But I also noted that HP's driver packages frequently fail - I'm referring to the HP packaging around the driver installation tool. Which is why so many of us go into the SP****.exe package to run an installer directly.
