Update:

For those that wish to use online chat to open support tickets, here is the link below:

I did contact HP, and apparantly, "We are aware of it and we are working on it," was their response when I sent them a link to this forum. Now it's just going to take some waiting and patience. Hopefully the can resolve this problem soon.

Thanks for doing that!  I've opened a ticket earlier today also. I'll be checking the Drives page and update the forum when they send a new one that works properly.  I'm glad to here that they are finally aware of the situation though.

i also contacted support and had a VERY long conversation.

He first told me that they were aware of the issue and "had solved it in every other instance". so he then told me to update drivers, reinstall them, set BIOS to default, etc. but i informed him i had tried all of the above with other agents, countless times before. He then quickly setup an repair order (so i'm sending in my laptop evidently) to which i informed him that many others (you guys) had done this already, to no avail.

He then assured me that "HP was a name brand company" and that they "strive for solutions to ensure hassle free systems".

after that i pretty much begged him to try and escalate the issue to get a long term solution. He then simply thanked me for doing so.

TIL how to waste an hour and a half.

I feel your pain, brother.  That's the same song and dance we all get.

My guy assured me - no, he PROMISED me - that if I were to return my laptop and get another one of the same exact model that it would be problem free and that I would be happy.  I told him that, while I appreciate his gangsta hustle, there is no possible way on earth that he could make such a promise.  Especially not when I know what's going on with everyone else's laptop!  It's not a one-off issue!

I almost bit on his pitch too,  but I knew that if I got another laptop back with the same problem that I was *literally* going to lose my motha lovin mind.  So I thought to myself, "Self... this isn't worth it.  Return this garbage and buy something from a competitor."

I bought a Vaio S and got a free PS Vita, and the rest is history.  Good luck though, brochacho.

I am on my second machine and the same issue again so dont waste your time. Also i was told by hp that they will try to make me happy. I came up with a reslotuion and told them if you want me to be happy ill take a quick ship model thats all i will accept and i will return this machine for a second time. NO RESPONSE. aftrer emailing them twice what a load of crap. I also asked why my negative review of this machine wasnt listed on the site which i think is funny.  Cover up?????? maybe???  I am convinced that they dont care about there customers. They just want to sell crap and make money. Emailing your customer and telling them we will resolve the issue is just by the book corperate bs.

{Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion}

You know I was in horror yesterday - I produce music and I completed a record some months ago after months of mixing and mastering and really looking into micro details to make it sound the way I wanted. And yesterday I decided to have a listen to my tracks on my brand new dv6. I started with this tune that has this quiet pad at the beginning and then the volume gradually increases when the beat enters and so on. And I listen and it sounded exactly the opposite. And then some other tracks having again some really weird swings. And I got completely desperate: have I been deaf all this time, what the {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} is going on. Never in the world I would suspect that a hardware manufacturer would install some **bleep**ing limiter or something. Anyway I go to sleep and this morning I just turn on pc, my Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 hooked to it - and it sounds all good! (my tune is here btw, I am still proud of it, I am happy to say! - http://soundcloud.com/zero_slum/slight-distraction-avocado) *whew* and then I began suspecting the {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} beats audio and found this thread.

Anyway, I think I fixed it by simply updating the IDT driver from the Device Manager. Sounds the way it should.

Hope you guys manage to figure it out with your machines!

I was planning on posting this earlier but didn't think it necessary but apparently after reading that some people returned their laptops and got them switched only to find that the problem was still there, I need to say this:  The problem is with the audio driver.  If you contact HP, (best is by email or online chat) then you need to inform them that the problem is that the audio driver does not allow the option to disable the audio enhancement called Loudness Equalization and you should explain what Loudness Equalization does.   DO NOT return your laptop because they will not send you a brand new one but rather a refurbished one and if you just bought your laptop that would then be like a downgrade.  This is not a hardware problem.  You need to let HP know that you have the latest driver from the HP support and drivers website and that the a newer version than the one currently available needs to be updated.

re-installing the drivers has been tried before a few pages back, and it has worked, but is undone when the computer restarts. if it bugs you a lot, (like it did for me), you can do this EVERY TIME you start your computer, or try out a fix someone posted here.

I only recently installed it so i cannot vouch too much on its effectiveness, but it seems to work so far.

Good luck!

I didn't here about the thing where restarting undoes the driver installation but I will say this, you can under the Audio properties select to update the driver and then click on the option to select a driver installed on your computer and then choose a generic audio driver.  This does not go away with a restart, also the registry hack posted in the link you just referred to is also not affected by a computer restart.  However that generic driver will not give you the enhancements that come with beats audio. So ultimately all these solutions are temporary.  Please just contact HP support by email or online chat to open a support ticket on the issue of the fact that the a newer version of the audio driver than is currently available needs to be released that allows the user to disable the specific audio enhancements such as Loudness Equalization.
