When playing Unreal Tournament 3 or Battlefield Bad Company 2 the CPU reaches 90~92 degrees celsuis and GPU 80.

What is considered "safe" or "normal" temperature for this notebook?

I mean "safe" for:

- Avoiding a shutdown.

- Avoid BGA damage.

- Other bad things.

Thanks.

These temperatures are pretty hot, especially the CPU, once it starts getting closer to 100C, the processor will throttle, slowing down to avoid heat damage. If it can't throttle, the computer will shut itself down to avoid frying the chip.

If it's not under warranty, you may have to apply the thermal compound yourself, and yes. In my experience the factory thermal paste is not sufficient. In fact, they didn't use paste, they used pads. If you feel unsafe with doing it yourself, take it to someone.

If not, buy yourself some arctic silver 5 and apply it. I say, if it starts getting into the mid 80s, it's getting too hot.

What is the installed CPU?

Without the prefix that should be before the 7212nr and knowlege of the CPU that you chose when ordering your notebook,  it is difficult to say.

Have you cleaned the notebook's intakes/exhaust ports with a PC compressed air can lately?

Best regards,

erico

Sorry.

Yes, is the DV7-7212nr, as Dragon-Fur said.

EDIT: It`s brand-new. Only 2 weeks of use.

Which CPU is installed?
Which GPU is installed?
Do you have discrete graphics with an AMD GPU?
You can right-click computer to see what is installed.

The temperature of the air that gets out from the notebook is not equivalent to the measured temperature.

For a 92ºC CPU and 80ºC GPU should be a **bleep** hot air but isn't.

The factory HP thermal paste is not sufficient?

Thanks for the answer.

It`s under the warranty, but I live in Brazil. This is the same as not having any warranty.

I will follow your advice.

Thanks!
