Hi Daniel,

I got the graphic card chip replaced by one of the HP service partner.

According to the technician, this is the very popular issues on almost HP laptops that he came across!!! So far, he has replaced more than 300 laptops with this same issue (high temp, then pixelated, then crash, then nvlddmkm.sys file recovery...). He told me that perhaps this batch of laptop has been screwed by one of the HP supplier in China!!! hell know!

Anyway, I paid upfront 80$ in Singapore and things are in good shape now. Oh, if you bring to HP repair center, it is going to cost you about 400$+tax since they will replace the whole motherboard, which may contain the bad chip and thing would eventually turns out ugly again!

Hope this info serves all the laptop's owner who have the same issue as mine!

Good luck guy, and for your next laptop, consider another brand unless HP seriously take care of this matter!

Cheers,

JN

First time I've use windows update for the display driver, and when I follow as instructions did, windows recognize my driver as standart vga display and wont give me any option to update to 8400m GS, did the windows update program, the optional give me nothing accept the langguage packs... What to do?

And by defected, did it means I can't use the notebook's VGA?

HP Recommended

Defected = Corrupted.

If You see that windows is using now standard vga driver then this means thn there are not installed any drivers for your graphic card now. I was hoping that You will be able to get driver from Windows Update because with this drivers Nvidia graphic cards are usually working with lower temps.

So how You may solve your problem? Usually reflowing GPU (graphic chip) solves it.

You may find some information about it here.

If You can't do this on your own then do it in good laptop service.

You will use all this advice on your own risk. I don't take any responsibility for any problems.

Hi, I plan on following this guide to update my notebook from Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 32 bit. However I'm wondering if the Chipset driver download you provided is accurate for my dv2550se. I checked the link and the most it supports is the Mobile Intel 945 series. My dv2550se is Mobile Intel 965 series. Would it work if I used the chipset driver you provided?

@blackfira

Hi,

Check the bottom of the page were chipset driver link is. Intel 965 family is listed there too so yes it will work.

Is Intel 965 considered the same as Mobile Intel 965?

Just to make sure, so that we are on the same page.

Yes. I'm using this driver on business model with the same chipset so believe me it will work without any problems.

Thank you, I just wanted to make sure. I'll get back on this guide when I get Windows 7 installed and all.

Hi there. This is a great guide. I updated my dv2046TU model to Windows 7 with this.

Until recently there were no problems. But yesterday, after a Microsoft update something suspicious happened with my battery.

Although the AC power is plugged in, the battery never charges beyond 9%.

I have checked the laptop charger and battery, and there are no problems with that. I think the updates has created some problem.

I researched on the internet a bit and found that there are many other users facing this problem known as "plugged in not charging" i.e. even though the power status shows that AC power is on, the battery does not charge.

I tried the solution of uninstalling 'Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method battery' and then reinstalling it, but that didn't help me.

Other solution suggests to update the BIOS. I was using Windows XP earlier and I have never updated the BIOS. Also, since there are no updates available for Windows 7 for my model, I am scared if I could use the latest updates for Windows Vista.

I would be grateful if you could let me know if updating BIOS will solve the problem and if I can install the latest update available for Windows Vista.
