You should ask him:
If it is supported, then why is there not an accompanying AMD signed Intel driver?
If it is supported, why can't I do a clean install of the drivers and have it work in Windows 8?
If it is supported, why do the release notes say that switchable graphics are not supported?
Then see how flustered he gets. 😄

sure, but why wait for the call, I just did a copy and paste of your questions, and replied to the last email again.
Said while I await your call here are some other questions from a guy.
Be interesting what reply I get back. I assume he didn't think I'd actually send him my home number and pursue this via a call.
To bad I only have contact with the usual "tech support" type, I'd like a real higher up in AMD, and tell him/her to just send me a new MB, either both gpu and apu as Radeon, or both Intel and NVIDIA.

Here are the answers, shrug, I don't know if he reads the questions as you meant them. I found that this guy is in Onterio.
Answers to your friends questions:
Q1 > If it is supported, then why is there not an accompanying AMD signed Intel driver?
A1 > I am not an engineer, or work with driver development. If one reads the release notes of 12.9Beta, one would see that it says it is compatible. On the back-end, and how things are made to be compatible I do not know, nor is general public made privy to this information.
Q2 > If it is supported, why can't I do a clean install of the drivers and have it work in Windows 8?
A2 > It is a Beta Driver. The driver release notes state it is compatible, therefore it is. If the driver does not install, it is not a basis to argue compatibility. Rather, your friend needs to begin troubleshooting his problem, or consider the fact that it is a beta driver, and therefore issues can occur. Using the Issue Reporting Form found in the release notes will help AMD to remedy problems found with the beta driver.
Q3 > If it is supported, why do the release notes say that switchable graphics are not supported?
A2 > I do not see where this is written at all. I believe your friend is mistaken.

The switchable graphics is compatible only with newer models.
We want to know about the older ones. But this isn't a AMD matter. It is HP.
We are @ 10 days for Windows 8 Major Release, and I'm almost sure that HP will not provide new drivers for us.
Or everyone think that HP is delaying the new drivers for October 26?
My new 6 months HP Laptop became like a 3 years old laptop. No Drivers for the Windows 8.
Unbeliavable.

AMD is playing dirty now. They did a stealth edit on their release notes, because you can see people's reactions here in other places:
I never checked the release notes again since the 26th of last month, because I figured that if they didn't release new drivers, then that wouldn't change either. Pretty dirty on their part, when they didn't even change the date the notes were edited.
As for the rest, he is being rdiculous, because beta is a feature freeze stage. Therefore if it doesn't support switchable graphics now on a clean install then, its not likely going to in the release version. I'd accept his argument if they were still in alpha.
I think some of these guys think that if the CCC supports SQ, then the drivers must, too.

It kind of is an AMD issue if they are taking over driver support, which they act like they are. They need to know these things. The rep that HOODY is talking to should be taking this information in and reporting it to the correct sources instead of resisting like a chump.

But I posted some AMD replays that my card WILL be supported, yet the 7690M XT is just a re branded 6770M (that is "supposed" to be @100MHz faster memory clock, yet is only @800MHz) so I assume those with a 6xxxM card should also be supported.
I just updated my old Gforce 8600 (desktop) with the latest NVIDIA driver, went without a problem. And even my buddy's laptop with Optimus downloaded the NVIDIA driver right from their site and installed with no problem.
HP had this "working" driver since 2011, its almost 2013, and they can't update this thing at least once since than when AMD has had several updates?
However, if you have a laptop with what they refer to as PowerExpress 3 than yeah, you may be out of luck for support by either Co. As from what I've read only PowerExpress 4 will be supported with this Enduro, (btw Enduro is what they (AMD) refer to now as Switchable Graphics) I assume like Optimus is the name Intel/NVIDIA use. But that you should still get a one time driver update to work with Windows 8, but yeah it is weird that they (HP) hasn't even posted one yet as its too close now, and you'd like to have the driver available at the time you install the OS.
The only other option for now is this Leshcat guy,who make these modded drivers, seems some have had good luck with them on W8 x64, but than the ones that have are usually people with something other than this 7690M thing,
I have no real solution, as I have been back and forth between HP and AMD since July myself, but I hold out some hope with AMD and this Enduro thing when they get the final driver out. If not, no problem I have done all I can and already know what I'll be doing down the road.

Guys! i have an Good NEWS for us (maybe)!
See this Link: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ad/windows-8-offer/intro.html
"HP is currently testing Windows 8 on HP PCs with Windows 7 sold after 1st October 2011 and on this site you will find PC upgrade instructions. HP will provide all essential drivers when Windows 8 becomes available."
I sent a E-Mail for them, in Portuguese Brazilian, asking for a date for them to release the drivers updates.
They responded that they will release it in October 26. For others Notebooks/Desktops, they will release the driver, with no estimated time.
Well, Good news for this week. Hope they do the thing for real.

Well, I was not aware about it. But, We have to wait until October 26.
If they lack the support we can argue with them.
