some have tried the original drivers by hp on compatibility mode for windows 7 , and they say it worked!!
give it a try

I have HP G42 373BR

i asked HP for an ETA about the Windows 8 drivers launch.

they don't have any clues. 😞

I emailed HP about this problem and didn't really get an overly helpful response (see below).  However, I did find some  Win 8/AMD-Intel switchable graphics drivers on the US site, which look very promising. http:://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-109900-1  I will give them ago, and if that fails, just wait around for the vague possibility of some new drivers.

You would like to know when there will be a graphic card driver for your system that runs on Windows 8. A couple of drivers have been released already and more drivers will be released over the course of time so I would just keep checking the website for the upcoming time.

You can also try to go to Windows update and check for other (optional) updates as there might be a chance that the drivers for Windows 8 are released by now but not yet published on our website yet.

problem description : There are no drivers to support switchable graphics in Windows 8.
troubleshooting : After a windows 8 upgrade, a black screen is displayed after the first boot into windows completes. No combination of the existing windows 7 intel HD/AMD graphics card drivers & CCC software works. To resolve I had to disable the AMD Radeon card after first booting into safe mode. I believe that thousands of HP laptop users are experiencing the same issue. Can we please have some window 8 graphics drivers?

I've seen several fixes for people throughout the pages to this post.  If your driver hasn't been released, keep checking the HP website for it.  I've seen good results using compatibility view. 

This thread also has a workaround solution that seems to be working for a lot of people.

windows 8 driver for my laptop HP Pavilion G4 1212tx has already been available but amd radeon 6470 driver provided by HP doesn't work at all....it is already mentioned so many times in this thread...but no one from HP seems to try to fix this issue...
