Im new to this forum and have had this issue for a few days now. It seemed to occur right after windows update. I got my laptop used but It was operating perefect for about 6 months untilt his happened.
I tried to uninstall the updates, recover fro a previous point, reinstalled all the drivers, pull the wireless card and reset, flashed the bios. I was on the phone with Microsoft and chatting with HP most of the day today and they both seem to tink its a hardware issue. I DON'T!
I know almost nothing about computers and this laptop(dv9205us) is the first experience with vista(ultimate),I noticed the in the device manager beneath the network adatpers there was an option for other devices and it had a yellow exclamation mark over the coprocessor. I reinstalled the driver and fix that part but still no wireless. HP wireless assistant doesnt even open for me, but I was looking in the control panel and in "Problem reports and solutions" I found that on the day my issue stared, the same day as thewindow updates were installed, I have 2 program compatibility problems, 2 driver installation issues and a few Network Diagnostics frameworks. Also a couple of the drivers HP linked my too have compatibility isses as well.
My system came with Vista home premium but the previous owner had it upgraded to Ultimate, I dont know if that matters or not.
Anybody get anywhere close to a real solution yet?

Known issue with this motherboard . If the device doesn't appear in the device manager and the wireless card works in other notebooks then your motherboard is bad . There are no known workarounds . I have replaced thousands of motherboards for this issue and ones that you are not yet experiencing that are related . The wireless is normally the first thing to go .
Hope this helped .

If this is a "known" issue why hasn't HP been proactive to head off the problem??? What is the point of registering if they (HP) aren't going to make you aware of issues with their products? I am about two months out of the warranty period with a laptop that works perfectly other that the wireless being disabled for some unknown reason. The switch does not have any affect on the networking abilities. The LED is orange and does not change. I have tried every suggestion available on the internet to no avail. The modem is recognized and reported to be working properly in the device manager. When I query the modem I get successful results. I own four HP/Compaq computers and numerous printers. If it is the decision of HP to ignore known problems without making them aware to their registered owners, I will do my business elsewhere. I built computers 15 years ago that are still going. Step it up or get out of the market. No one needs to run a business using products that are unreliable.

OK, Since this issue with the wireless will never be fixed and buying the exact same wireless card and replacing it also does no good, is there another card that will be compatible with that slot? Say a small SSD drive?
Something like this: http://www.xpcgear.com/patriot-pl64gpepcssdr-ssd-hard-drive.html
I could use the extra storage space. :robotwink:

LOOK...my response on this board has nothing to do with an alternative that will cost the end user money. This is a KNOWN HP product issue that has been shielded from registered users. I can beat a drum all day but the fact is HP built and sold a product that is defective yet, wants business to procede status quo. I want except that. I earn the money I spend and spend it on products I determine reliable based on my research and their (HP's) marketing efforts. The product I purchased, according to them, is reliable. If I were to tell you that the products I sold were the best, then you would expect the best out of them. It's their (HP's) choice to make. They can make it right or lose a customer.

Right now my internal wireless card is working. I do not know what happened or what changed.
I did not change any settings or new hardware. The most resent thing that happened was that the HP update ran but did not find any updates.
This is the weirdest thing I have ever had to deal with. I will keep My USB wireless network close by though. Who knows how long this will last….
Probably just until the next reboot.
