This product is junk and as you can see from the other comments, the support is a joke as well. I have tried numerous usb drives 30x+ and still get unexpected error. I just got off the phone with support and the only solution they can provide after taking 10 minutes to get my name right is to send the chromebook back to them. How is it that the largest commercial tech company in the world have no idea what is wrong with their software. Not happy with hp, their junk and terrible support.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Are any members who are looking for a Chromebook recovery image for a flash drive aware that the software is created by Google?
Go to the following URL to learn how to create recovery images.

With the Google Chromebook image creator there is no issue with using a Sandisk flashdrive.
