Cursor randomly flickers and defaults to the bottom left hand corner over the windows icon.

I can touch the cursor and move from it from the bottom, but it returns shortly after.

It occurs more frequently after it initially happens.

Quite annoying.

Model HP Envy TouchSmart 17 Notebook PC.

Hello @ninjabob ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you're cursor is jumping to the bottom left corner of your screen.

It would help to know which notebook and operating system you have. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?

I would suggest updating the drivers for the touchpad. Without the exact model I can't give you a direct link to the drivers but you can find them here: HP - Drivers & Downloads by entering your model or product number and selecting your operating system.

You can also see a guide on using and troubleshooting the touchpad here: Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 😎.

If this is a new issue with the notebook I would also suggest a system restore to before the issue started to rule out any software or update conflicts. You can do a system restore by following this guide: System Restore (Windows 7) or System Restore (Windows 😎.

Let me know if that helps or if you have any questions. Smiley Happy

Hey ninjabob,

Thanks for the info.

Did you try updating the drivers or going through that document yet?

If you haven't tried updating the driver here's a direct link now that I have your notebook model: Synaptics TouchPad Driver.

Try installing that driver and going through the document in my previous post if you have not already.

Let me know if that works. 🙂

I am not sure it has anything to do with the touchpad as much as it has to do with the touch screen. I get a round transparent symbol that hovers over the windows icon in the bottom left corner and then the cursor arrow will drop down over it. I have to touch the arrow cursor on the screen to pull it off to take control but mostly it just goes back to the corner. I did update the touchpad driver though.

Hey ninjabob,

Thanks for the updated information.

The circle showing up would indicate Windows or the touchscreen things something is touching the screen in the corner as you stated. For this, try calibrating the touchscreen:

  1. Press Windows Key + C.
  2. Click Search.
  3. Type Tablet PC Settings.
  4. Click Tablet PC Settings in the list of results.
  5. Make sure the display is listed in the drop down and click Calibrate...

This will map the borders of the touch display and might help.

Let me know if that helps at all. 🙂
