Hello!

I have an HP dv7t - 1000

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2,53GHz

and it has a problem with the temperature.

When i just start the laptop it's around 80 Celsius and grows fast over 90.

Now it's 97 Celsius and I only use Internet Explorer to write this post.

I'm forced to use an external cooler, otherwise it reach TJ Max, the display is turning of.. the sound too.. and then the PC.

Please tell me what can i do to solve this problem. I can't use my laptop anymore without the external fan.

I bougth the laptop in 2008 from HP.com (US).. now I'm in Romania and i can't get help and support here for this laptop model.

That's why i'm writing this post here, on this web'site.

Please help me if you can.

Hello a Chill pad is not a bad idea, we do have some available on our accesories website

http://www.shopping.hp.com/can/computer/categories/specialty_products/1/accessories

Also- here is a document on how to clean out the vents, all though it does not give out the PSI - it does recommend a can of compressed air  so the PSI should be about the same.

Targus Notebook Chill MatTargus Heat Defense Pad for Laptops

Document on cleaning vents.

Notebooks can shut down and run up to 40 % hotter with dirty vents and fans.

I have a hp dv 9000 laptop running indows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with similar overheating issues.. I want to upgrade to windows 7, but I don't want to reinstall all of my software.

(off topic)

I have seen several people mention ways to backup the registry from windows xp and restore it to windows 7. Some of these solutions are abit more technical than I am -- I found them on Microsoft's knowledgebase.

I only replied to this post because the inital response I read was well written. It included a suggestion, and a link. So kudos out to you!

P.S. If you have a solution for my overheating problems, please post a response.

Have you been cleaning the dust out of the system regularly? If the internal fans, grills, and heatsinks get coated in dust, your cooling system will not be effective. You can clean it out by using a can of compressed air and gently blowing the dust out of the vents. Depending on how dusty/humid your environment is, you may have to clean it regularly, for example every week or so.

I have NEVER cleaned the dust out of any vents on the laptop, and have never heard of that as a solution. However, I would be willing to use my air compressor, if you can post an appropriate PSI...

BTW, what do you think about setting your laptop on top of a box fan (like LASKO) for example...as a method of cooling. is it at all effective?

oh. lucky that i haven't do that yet.

Actually i am planning to buy one of these, I think that won't hurt warranty.

Not worth buying. It would be only wasted money and nothing else.

I found two reviews of this device:

  • here on dragonsteelmods site

and

  • here on Danish site (use google translator).

It's just a toy. It doesn't cool even old laptops so it will not work for sure well with new.

From second test You may find out then it gives some reults when laptos is in idle mode, but when computer will start to do something temperature will not be even one degree less.

Second thing is that You may not be able to mount it on every laptop. Testers are writing that they had troubles with finding laptop which allow them to use this device. So sentence from manufacter site:

" Universal Clip for fastening USB power interfaces, Compatible for all major NB brands. "

isn't quite true. 😉

Summary:

It's still much better and recommended to buy real cooler which is cooling pad.
