Hello mikeolateju,

You need help turning on your web cam.

You should be able to go to start and type web cam and you should get a program called cyber link YouCam, this should open the web cam.

If the web cam does not start you might go to device manager and make sure that the web cam is in the list.

Here is a link to device manager.

Here is a link that might help trouble shoot the web cam.

Let me know how everything goes.

I tried all this, but cannot find where to turn the camera ON. The manager tells me it is "working properly" but nowhere can I find how to turn it on.

NOTa ll of us are technologically literate. this NEEDS to be made easier

Hey acoco,

I'm sorry. It is a little confusing if you don't use it often. Actually your camera doesn't have an ON/OFF switch per se, like a mouse or your wireless function. Programs are designed with codes that reach out to the camera and turn it on, so to "turn the camera on" you simply have to open a program that uses the camera and the program will take care of turning the camera on, behind the scenes. You won't need to do anything other than just open the program to turn it on and close the program to turn it off.

Say you're wanting to use Skype, you only have to double-click on Skype and the camera window should automatically show your image. If you're not seeing your image or if it's giving you an error message saying, "make sure the device is turned on," take a look at this link.

Here's another video that some users have found helpful. Sometimes the video cable may be pinched in the hinges, pulling the connection, making it disconnect. The link to the video is on the last post of that thread.

Let me know if you have any questions 🙂

Sorry, but that did not help. I still have the same issue. The came is built into my laptop (Pavilion dv6 is all I know/can find). So, very few of the instructions were even options for me. I had to guess and hope I was clicking on the correct things to get to the right windows or screens.

I have almost ZERO computer knowledge and have never used the webcam before and am trying to use it when chatting with my daughter.

Ok no worries. I'll be glad to help 🙂

What program are you using to chat with your daughter? Skype maybe or Facebook or something else? Depending on the program, there may be a built-in video and audio test that you can use to determine if the camera is detected.

When you open that program, do you see a black screen where the camera should be? Do any error messages pop up?

Do you know if you're using Windows 7 or 8? (If not, how new is your computer? Windows 8 only came out in November 2012)

I'll keep an eye out for your reply 🙂

I am using Yahoo, and get no error messages. I get a window with the YouCam logo in the center of a black square that says it is broadcasting. Under the picture of the camera are the words "Please turn on your camera". I am using Windows 7
