Ditto! Supposedly, this tool can access the machine and supply the necessary information. Is it proprietary? What do I have to do to obtain it? Thank you in advance for any information.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product.
You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/

Thanks.

I replaced a MB for a neighbor. I offer computer, phone and printer repair to my small community gratis and am not in any way 'commercial'.

The 6550b original MB blew out the video chip, a problem not unusual to HP laptops. I offer as some proof a stack of eight in my garage all with that specific malfunction. Now, due to obfuscation beyond belief, this one is unuseable. The 'tool' is confidential, not on any of the links given, has no obvious purpose other than to restrict servicing of said laptop to HP techs only.

Looking over the forums, I have noticed that a number of others have this problem with the same satisfaction that I have been given.

It sure would be 'nice' if HP would respond in a positive manner to this situation.

And, I am looking forward to your reply.

The HP ProBook 6550b is a commercial product. People more familiar with those products will be on the commercial forums (see Mrsenter's post above for the link).
