My WebCam does not seem to work. What can I do?
- The first troubleshooting step you should try is to restart your computer. Sometimes a single application can take control of your webcam device and not let any other apps use it, but you can release that control by restarting.
- Here are a few other steps you can try if the problem persists after restarting
# HP has created detailed articles explaining various issues and the respective fixes.
You may want to check them out and follow the steps :
- For HP PCs - Troubleshoot the webcam (Windows 11 and Windows 10) | HP® Support
- For HP PCs - Troubleshoot the webcam (Windows 11)
- Reinstalling an HP Webcam Driver in Windows | HP Computers | @HPSupport
# Microsoft has also created a detailed article. It is for Windows 10 and you may want to click here to explore potential fixes. Pay special attention to the Privacy settings. This is a new feature in Windows 10 that may block access to the camera or microphone, often without any error message. General privacy settings in Windows . Besides the Microsoft Store Apps also turn "on" the "Allow desktop apps to access your camera" if you will be using desktop apps such as Zoom. You may also need to check the microphone privacy settings.
.
# If you own a commercial/business class device such as HP Elitebook/Probook/Zbook, make sure that you check your BIOS/UEFI settings - ensure that the Internal Camera/WebCam is checked and enabled there. Access the BIOS/UEFI through F10 key during power-up --> Navigate to "Advanced" tab --> Built-In Device Options
# If you only experience a WebCam issue in a particular app (such as in Zoom, MS Teams, Skype, etc...), check the application's settings or the vendor's article for any specific in-app settings.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-6c54nr. Purchased with Win 7, went to win 10 enterprise edition. My HPTruevision camera has not worked since the upgrade. I do not have a " Camera" or "Imaging Device" listed in Device Manager. I have scanned for hardware....no luck. Have not been able to find drivers on line. I did not receive any disks with the system just info on hard drive. I do not want to restore to win 7. Somewhere there should be win 10 HPTruevision drivers. Hope you can help

Hello @Pbj
Your computer model HP Pavilion dv6-6c54nr has been released long time ago, before Windows 10 was released and before latest (currently supported Windows 10 releases) have been published.
- As per the official HP article >here< , your model may not be supported for use with Windows 10, I am afraid.
- HP has not released drivers for Windows 10 for your machine, only for Windows 7 and Windows 8, therefore only Windows 7 and 8 are supported officially.
- The risk of using unsupported operating system is that some features and hardware may not work or may not work as expected.
Here are some ideas:
Option 1 -> you can use this computer with either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 - Windows 8 (8.1) will be supported 3 more years - by 2023.
Option 2 -> even though not officially supported and if Windows 10 is generally working OK on your computer (besides the webcam issue),
you may purchase and use an external web camera. There are various models (classic, mini, HD, full HD,etc. ) and vendors available - the price starts at around 20 USD. You may get it from your local tech store or from popular online tech shops.
Thank you for choosing HP !

Hello @Chris6569
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community.
I think you mean that your camera does *not* work with Zoom or VA VC ? Am I correct to assume that ?
- Please, follow the steps mentioned above in the initial article (the HP article and then the Microsoft article)
- You need to be sure if the Camera indeed functions in the built-in Camera app, if you can see it in Device Manager, etc
- If the issue is only in Zoom or VA VC, then check this article
Let me know how it goes. Provide as many details as possible if your issue is not resolved.

It is a mystery to me as to why the HP Virtual Assistant doesn’t immediately let you know that in the HP Envy x360, there is a small red WebCam privacy switch on the front, right side, of the laptop which you must flip to the “ON” position, before the camera can be detected!!! You don’t need new drivers!!! Just flip the dang switch!!!
