- Battery Draining While Docked — Poly Savi 8400 Series
Issue: The Headset powers on automatically when placed in the dock, leading to battery drain over time.
Overview
Some users have reported that their Poly Savi 8400 Series headset turns itself on as soon as it's placed in the charging dock. While this might seem like a convenience feature, it can cause the headset to remain powered on when it's not actually in use, leading to the battery draining even when the headset is docked.
Affected Models
- Poly Savi 8410
- Poly Savi 8420
- Poly Savi 8445
- (This behavior may also affect similar models in the Savi 8200 series.)
What You Might Notice
- The headset powers on automatically when docked
- LED lights remain on, even when the headset isn't in use
- The battery doesn't fully charge or may even lose charge while docked
- The headset may feel warm after sitting in the dock for a long time
Why It Happens
By default, the headset is set to automatically power on when placed in the dock. The idea is to keep it ready for use, but in practice, this can leave the headset active even when it’s not needed, especially overnight or during non-working hours. This leads to unnecessary battery drain.
How to Fix It
You can disable the auto power-on feature using the Poly Lens desktop app. Here's how:
- Download and install Poly Lens from the official site:
https://www.poly.com/us/en/support/downloads-apps/lens-app - Connect your headset to your computer via USB, or ensure the base is connected and recognized.
- Open the app and go to your Device Settings.
- Look under the General or Power Settings section (label may vary slightly by model).
- Find the setting labeled either:
- “Auto Power On When Docked”
- or “Turn on headset when docked”
- Change that setting to Off.
- Click Apply or Save to make sure your changes are saved.
- Dock the headset again to confirm the new setting works — the headset should stay off unless you turn it on manually.
Confirming the Fix
Once you’ve disabled auto power-on:
- Dock the headset — it should stay off (no LED activity).
- Manually turning the headset on with the power button should still work normally.
Keep Firmware Updated
It’s a good idea to check for firmware updates while you’re in the Poly Lens app. These updates can improve performance, fix bugs, and sometimes reset device settings — so you may need to recheck this power-on behavior after an update.
Additional Notes
Some firmware updates may revert this setting to the default. If the issue reappears, revisit the steps above.
