I have followed all troubleshooting options, purchased a second black cartridge, and still get the same error message:
There is a problem with the printer or ink system
Any suggestions on getting this working again?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the “There is a problem with the printer or ink system” error on your HP printer, even after trying two new black ink cartridges:
Power Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
- Turn the printer back on.
Check Printer Level
- Place a small round object (like a marble) on top of the printer.
- If it rolls in any direction other than slightly back and left, the printer may not be level.
- Adjust the printer until the object stays in place or rolls slightly back and left.
Remove and Reinsert Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove all cartridges, especially the black ones.
- Check for:
- Protective tape still on the cartridge.
- Ink or debris on the electrical contacts.
- Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water if needed.
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly.
Clean Cartridge Vents
- Use a pin to gently clear any clogged vents on top of the cartridge.
- Ensure no glue or label residue is blocking the vent.
Try a Different Cartridge (if available)
- If you have another new black cartridge, try installing it.
- Ensure it’s a genuine HP cartridge.
Update Printer Firmware
- Visit HP Support page and enter your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware.
