I understand InkJet cartridges have a warranty period. Looking at both the Black and Color Cartridges the warranty period is just expired on the Black Cartridge (10/31/2020) and not yet expired on the Color Cartridge (10/31/2021). The black cartridge indicates 3/4 full, the color indicates 1/4 full.
This printer is not used much anymore because of the lines that print through text and color pictures. A year or so ago, I did all the diagnostics with what I believe were then new cartridges. After 10 - 15 cleanings the lines cleared. The next day it was printing lines again.
I don't know what the exact problem is, but my wife, who uses the printer mostly, is ready to replace it. Looking at replacements there is not much better an alternative, so I am hoping to fix this one. Need help to resolve printing issues.

Hi @alruff,
I'd like to help!
As the black cartridge is already out of warranty, Please replace the cartridge and then try printing.
You may order ink cartridges from HP Store
Remove the black cartridge and then try printing only with color cartridge and check the quality.
If the issue persists, I’d recommend you contact HP Phone Support in your region for further assistance.
Follow the instructions below to reach them:
1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.
6)Fill the web-form and proceed further.
If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Jay,
Replacing the cartridges did resolve the issue...which I expected it would.
My question is how often should I print something on the printer to keep the cartridges from dryiing out?
The previous cartridges were fairly new and I must have run the clean maintenance routine a couple dozen times which pretty much used up the remaining ink and did not solve the lines issue.
