I have tried 2 new 64 XL black ink cartridges in 2 new HP 7855 and get a message to remove and reinstall the cartridge. The original 64 black (non XL) that came with the printer (s) works fine (although now out of ink). I am still printing on the original 64 tri-color cartridge. Is a 64XL Black compatible with the 64 Tri-color or do you need to have XL's in both cartridge slots for the printer to recognize the XL cartridge? Thoughts? Comments? Thanks

@MGF62, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
You may use one XL and one regular ink cartridge in the printer. It will work fine.
Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge
If the error persists with 2 ink cartridges, I'm afraid this could be a hardware issue. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.

Thanks for your response, much appreciated.
HP has sent me a new printer, same problem. Currently I am awaiting 2- new 64XL cartridges from HP, hopefully that will solve the issue. I bought a 3rd new cartridge yesterday, but only the 64 (non XL) it is working fine in my replacement printer.
For now, I can only assume I got 2 bad cartridges, maybe a bad batch in manufacturing, fingers crossed the replacement 64XL works.
