@Hawkeyecd, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you have accidentally filled the ink tank with the wrong ink, it's important to clean it properly to avoid damaging the printer or print quality issues. Here are the steps to clean the ink tank:

Safety Precautions

  • Ensure that the ink bottles and any cleaning materials are kept out of reach from children.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves to avoid skin contact with the ink.

Steps to Clean the Ink Tank

Turn Off the Printer: Ensure that your printer is turned off and unplugged before beginning the cleaning process.

Lift the Ink Access Door: From the left side of the printer, carefully lift the ink access door.

Lifting the ink access door

Open the Tank Covers and Ink Tank Cap: Open the tank covers and then the cap on the ink tank to gain full access to the ink.

Opening the tank covers

Empty the Tank: Carefully pour out the ink from the wrong-filled tank into a suitable container for disposal.

Clean the Tank: Use a lint-free cloth or sponge dampened with distilled water to clean the inside of the tank. Ensure all residue is removed.

Dry the Tank: Allow the tank to air dry completely before refilling. Ensure the opening and nozzle are also free from moisture.

Refill with Correct Ink: Using the appropriately colored ink bottle, refill the tank by matching the color of the bottle with the ink tank color. Hold the bottle on the tank nozzle and let the ink drain into the tank without squeezing the bottle.

Filling ink into the tanks

Close the Ink Tank Cap and Covers: Ensure everything is securely closed after refilling.

Power On the Printer: Plug the printer back in and turn it on to resume normal operations.

Important Notes

  • Using Genuine Ink: Ensure you use genuine HP ink for refills to maintain print quality and reliability.
  • Possible Printhead Damage: Do not install printheads until ink tanks are filled correctly.
