7740 showed Magenta and Yellow cartridges low or empty. Fitted new genuine HP cartridges but now shows both empty. Have done power off reset, removed and reinstalled but still the same. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi @dm5704,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've replaced the cartridges with genuine HP cartridges and you're still seeing the same error, there might be a few potential issues causing this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Make sure the cartridges are properly installed in the printer. Sometimes cartridges might not be seated correctly, causing the printer to not recognize them.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Remove the cartridges and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer with a clean, lint-free cloth. Make sure there's no dirt or debris blocking the electrical contacts.
- Reset the Printer: Perform a full reset of the printer by turning it off, unplugging it from the power source, and waiting for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges.
- Check for Ink Sensors or Contacts: Sometimes there are sensors or contacts within the printer that can become dirty or malfunction, leading to incorrect readings of ink levels. If you're comfortable doing so, you can try cleaning these components carefully.
- Inspect for Damage: Check the cartridges themselves for any visible damage or defects. If they seem to be physically damaged, try replacing them with another set of genuine cartridges.
- Re-seat Cartridges: Try removing the cartridges and re-seating them in the printer. Occasionally, this can resolve detection issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
