HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My printhead will not print a clean blue, purple or green color despite 10 successive printhead cleanings. I am told the printhead is not replaceable and I am in the HP Smart and Ink Replacement program. If my only option to fix this problem is to buy a new printer, I will look at another company as this printer is less than 5 years old

@TerryNavy, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're facing issues with your OfficeJet Pro 8025 where blue, purple, and green colors aren't printing cleanly, even after 10 successive printhead cleanings, and you're enrolled in the HP Smart Ink Replacement program.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help resolve this:

Confirm Ink Levels

Ensure all ink cartridges (especially cyan, magenta, and yellow) have sufficient ink. Low ink levels can cause faded or missing colors.

  • On the printer control panel, tap the Ink icon to view estimated ink levels.
  • If you're using HP Instant Ink cartridges, make sure they are properly installed.

Perform All Three Levels of Printhead Cleaning

Even though you've done multiple cleanings, ensure you've completed all three levels of cleaning. Each level uses more ink and is more aggressive in clearing clogs.

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
    • Perform the cleaning and print the test page.
    • If quality is poor, repeat for Level 2 and Level 3.
    • Wait 30 minutes before repeating the full cleaning cycle if needed.

Align the Printhead

After cleaning, align the printhead to ensure optimal color mixing and accuracy.

  • From the printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Cartridge Vents and Installation

Improperly seated cartridges or blocked vents can cause color issues.

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinsert each cartridge.
  • Inspect the vent area (small plastic strip on top of cartridge) for clogs or dried ink.
  • Clean gently with a lint-free cloth if needed.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges

Using non-HP or refilled cartridges can cause print quality issues. Since you're enrolled in the HP Smart Ink Replacement program, ensure you're using the Instant Ink cartridges provided by HP.
