Hi @Mikeps,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it is when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e prints color photos perfectly on regular paper but refuses to cooperate with photo paper, especially when you're expecting vibrant, frame-worthy results. Let’s walk through the most effective steps to fix this.
Step-by-Step Fix Guide
1. Load Photo Paper Correctly
- For front-load trays, place the glossy side facing down.
- For rear-load trays, place the glossy side facing up.
- Make sure the paper guides are snug but not tight.

2. Set the Correct Paper Type and Quality
- In the Print dialog box, click Preferences or Printer Properties.
- Set Paper Type to HP Photo Paper or equivalent.
- Set Print Quality to Best or Max DPI.
- Make sure Color Printing is selected (not grayscale or black ink only).
3. Clean the Printhead
Even if it prints fine on regular paper, photo paper requires more precise ink flow.
- On the printer’s touchscreen:
- Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
- Run the cleaning cycle and print a test page.
- Repeat up to 3 times if needed.
4. Use Genuine HP Photo Paper
Some third-party photo papers may not absorb ink properly or trigger incorrect settings. HP recommends using HP Advanced Photo Paper for the best results.
5. Update Firmware and Drivers
- Visit the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e All-in-One Printer | HP® Support.
- Download and install the latest firmware, drivers, and HP Smart app.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
