HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer

My hp office jet 8010 series says "cartridges rejected". Identifies them as being altered or cloned. I read advice to disable cartridge protection. Which I've done. I read to reset printer. Did that. Now what?

@Sara266, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding 81010 series ink cartridge issue
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 8010 series printer is still rejecting the ink cartridges even after disabling cartridge protection and resetting the printer. Here are some additional troubleshooting steps to try:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that the cartridges you are using are the correct ones for your printer model. For the HP OfficeJet 8010 series, the compatible cartridges are typically from the HP 910 or HP 912 series (depending on your region). If you're using non-HP or refilled cartridges, they may not be recognized properly.

2. Reinstall the Cartridges

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any visible damage.
  • Clean the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth and a little bit of distilled water.
  • Let them dry completely before reinserting them.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and reinstall the cartridges.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

HP frequently releases firmware updates that may impact third-party or refilled cartridges.

  • Go to HP Support and check for the latest firmware update for your printer model.
  • If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.

4. Try a Hard Reset

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the wall outlet.
  6. Turn the printer back on and check if the issue persists.

5. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

If you are using third-party or refilled cartridges, they may not be recognized due to HP's security features. Consider using genuine HP cartridges to see if that resolves the issue.

6. Disable Cartridge Protection Again

Since you've already tried this, double-check the setting:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Cartridge Protection and ensure it is disabled.
  • If you used HP Smart, try disabling protection from the software as well.

If none of these steps work, let me know exactly which cartridges you're using, and I can guide you further! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
