Hi @ahdtd,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

HP has implemented a firmware update that disables Dynamic Security for all printers, regardless of their manufacturing date. This update aims to enhance printer security and reduce vulnerabilities associated with unauthorized third-party cartridges. Here’s what you should know:

What is Dynamic Security?

Dynamic Security is a feature in some HP printers that restricts the use of non-HP cartridges. The firmware update disables this feature, which means your printer will no longer block the use of non-HP cartridges, regardless of whether the cartridges were previously recognized or not.

Implications of the Update

Compatibility: After the update, printers will allow the use of third-party cartridges that may have been blocked previously. This provides more flexibility in choosing ink supplies.

Security Enhancements: Although Dynamic Security is disabled, HP continues to encourage users to use genuine HP cartridges to ensure the best performance and reliability.

Future Updates: HP may introduce further firmware updates in the future that could modify or restore some features related to security and compatibility.

How to Manage Firmware Updates

Check for Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer is updated to the latest firmware version. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel.

Install Firmware Updates:

  • If you have not yet received the update, you can manually check for and install firmware updates through the HP Support website.

Monitor Your Printer’s Performance:

  • After the update, keep an eye on your printer's performance and cartridge compatibility. If you encounter any issues, consult HP phone Support for further assistance.

If you are using a third party will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
