I purchased some aftermarket inkjet cartridges. At first they worked fine. Over time the printer would tell me one of the cartridges is empty. I would remove and replace it and everything would be fine. Eventually, it started telling me all of the cartridges were empty. If I open the door and let the cartridges reset themselves and close the door, it works fine, for awhile. I've seen a few instructions online for changing the settings to remove the HP's barrier for aftermarket cartridge use. My printer has none of those options in the settings. I've looked at the settings in the HP Smart printing app on my Windows 11 laptop. There is nothing helpful there. In the end, this seems to be HP just being, I'll be kind, obstructionist when it comes to using a perfectly fine aftermarket product that is less than half the price of OEM cartridges. Anyone have any suggestions on how to defeat this problem. Thank you.

Something else is happening.
Your printer is one of the few printers than can use non-hp ink.
Make sure you have this exact firmware to take advantage of the ink supply:
1910a dated Jan 26, 2021
if you are still having problems then go here.
possibly your printhead is bad or needs to be cleaned.

Thanks so much for your response. I downloaded the firmware and when I went to install it, it found my printer, but the entire line, including the check box is browned out so I cannot select and install it.

Doug

See what firmware you currently have.
If you already have that 1910a then that explains why it is grayed out.

I really appreciate your effort to help me. I don't think it's the printhead. Everything prints fine, included the demo page. The current firmware is FDP1CN2022AR. The ink supplier suggested cleaning the cartridge contact points by wiping them with a lint-free cloth, which I did, to no avail. The supplier also suggested changing the firmware, and here we are. You mention if I'm still having a problem go here. Do you know which menu item in that list pertains to this problem. It's unclear to me which section might apply. Thanks again.
