HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - G510n

I have been unable to print using the #60 cartridges on my HP Officejet 4500 series since the #901 cartridges have been discontinued. I have tried to troubleshoot, as HP suggested cleaning the contacts and unplugging the printer for an extended period of time, but this action does not seem to work. It continues to say I have the incorrect ink cartridge in the printer.

How can we get this to work appropriately?

@manielmoth, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding incorrect cartridge issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you're facing an issue with your HP Officejet 4500 printer not recognizing the #60 cartridges. Let’s try some basic troubleshooting steps to resolve this:

Verify Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that the #60 ink cartridges you are using are genuine HP cartridges.

Power Drain

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Wait for about 2-3 minutes to drain residual power.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  5. Reinsert the cartridges and check if the issue persists.

Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Unplug it from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer on.

If the issue persists, please refer to this HP support guide for further troubleshooting steps:

I have done all the efforts you listed. I have done all of this multiple times before I posted here, and still does not recognize the #60 cartridges.

Hi @manielmoth, It looks like the #60 cartridge is not compatible with the HP Officejet 4500 series, even though the #901 cartridge has been discontinued. If HP has not officially listed the #60 as a replacement, the printer's firmware may not recognize it.

Here’s what you can do next:

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Sometimes, a firmware update from HP can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Go to HP official website → Support → Enter your printer model → Look for firmware updates.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
