Hi @Wanglab,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Ink cartridge issues with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e printer can arise for various reasons, even with new cartridges. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the error.
Verify Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure that the cartridges are compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e. Compatible cartridges for this model are typically part of the HP 962 or HP 962XL series (or region-specific variations like HP 963 or HP 964).
Inspect the Cartridges
- Remove and Reinstall: Power off the printer, then remove and reinstall the cartridges securely to ensure proper contact.
- Check for Packaging Materials: Ensure there are no plastic tapes, seals, or other obstructions on the cartridge nozzles or contacts.
- Inspect for Damage: Look for cracks, leaks, or other visible damage on the cartridges.
Clean the Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the gold contacts on both the cartridges and the cartridge slot in the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cable and turn on the printer.
- Reinstall the cartridges and check if the error persists.
Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware may fail to recognize new cartridges. To update:
- Connect the printer to Wi-Fi or a computer.
- Use the HP Smart app or the HP website to download and install the latest firmware for the printer.
Run Diagnostic Tools
Use the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app to perform diagnostic tests:
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Diagnose or Fix Errors.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve detected issues.

Try Different Cartridges
There could be a problem with one or more cartridges. To test:
- Replace the suspected problematic cartridge with another one if available.
- Check if the error resolves or persists with another cartridge.
Perform a Factory Reset
If the problem continues:
- Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Settings on the printer's control panel.
- Reconfigure the printer and test again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
