Hi @vettedrive,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the 950XL ink cartridge does not fit your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610, there are a few potential reasons and solutions to consider.

  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that you are using the correct cartridge model. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is compatible with the 950 and 951 series cartridges, including the 950XL (black) and 951XL (cyan, magenta, yellow). If you have a cartridge from a different series, it won't fit.
  • Inspect the Cartridge: Examine the cartridge for any physical damage or manufacturing defects. Ensure that the protective tape covering the ink nozzle and contacts has been completely removed.
  • Correct Orientation: Make sure you are inserting the cartridge in the correct orientation. The cartridge should slide in easily without excessive force.
  • Clean the Cartridge Slot: Dust or debris in the cartridge slot can sometimes prevent proper seating. Use a soft, dry cloth to gently clean the area where the cartridge fits.
  • Check for Locking Mechanism: Some cartridges may have a locking mechanism. Ensure that you are not missing any steps in the installation process.
  • Try Another Cartridge: If possible, try using another 950XL cartridge to see if the issue is with the cartridge itself.
  • Firmware Update: Sometimes, printer firmware may restrict compatibility. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
