HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 11

Purchased 950XL and 951 ink cartridge combo for years.  Office Depot no longer has the combo so purchased 951 cartridges only.  After replacing the yellow 951 cartridge, error message states there is a problem with the printer or ink system.  Turner printer off then on.  Have never had this issue when replacing cartridges in the past.

Hi @Rbet,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating to encounter issues with your printer after replacing the ink cartridge. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

Check for Proper Installation:

  • Ensure that the yellow 951 cartridge is properly installed. Remove it and reseat it to make sure it's securely in place.
  • Double-check that there are no protective tapes or seals left on the cartridge, obstructing the ink flow.

Clean Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the yellow cartridge.
  • Wipe the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinstall the cartridge and turn the printer back on.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Officejet Pro 8600. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

Perform a Power Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the error persists.

Check for Ink System Issues:

  • Some printers have a self-diagnosis feature for ink system problems. Navigate to your printer's control panel or use the printer software on your computer to run a diagnostic test for the ink system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
