I have two different printers that use 952 ink.  Both were working with older cartridges.  When the yellow was depleted, I replaced one printer with new yellow ink and received a message that there was a problem with the supply system.  I then used the second printer and when I had to replace the yellow ink, I received the same message.  I did not receive any error messages with any of the other colors.  Since I had a problem with two different printers, I think the problem must be with the new yellow cartridges.  I tried different ones purchased from a different company and the same think happened.  This leads me to believe that there may be a manufacturing problem.  When I first install the new yellow cartridges, it shows that the ink is full, but when it tries to feed the ink to the printer is when I receive the error message.

Hi @BKFL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand both of your printers that use HP 952 XL ink are showing a “Problem with Supply System” error only with the new yellow cartridge, even though other colors work fine. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power Reset the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord for 60 seconds.

Reconnect and power back on to clear temporary supply system faults.

Reseat the Yellow Cartridge

Remove the yellow cartridge and check for protective tape or packaging left on the ink port.

Wipe the electrical contacts gently with a lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Reinsert firmly until it clicks into place.

Test with Another Yellow Cartridge

Since you’ve already tried multiple new yellows with the same result, this suggests a batch issue.

If possible, test with an older yellow cartridge (even if low) to confirm the printer itself is fine.

Check Firmware Updates

Use the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to update firmware.

HP occasionally releases updates to resolve supply system errors linked to new cartridge batches.

Run Printer Diagnostics

From the printer menu, run the “Print Quality Report” or “Diagnostics Page.”

If the error appears only when yellow is engaged, it confirms the cartridge is not being recognized correctly.

Inspect Cartridge Batch

Look at the lot number printed on the cartridge packaging.

If both sets of yellow cartridges share the same lot, it may be a manufacturing defect.

Try a Different Source

If possible, purchase a yellow cartridge from a different retailer or lot number.

This helps confirm whether the issue is isolated to a batch.

I hope this helps.
