Hello, I have been looking over wide scale printers and I am looking at the 9730e. I have seen a lot of bad reviews on it. I have a HP Officejet Pro 860 which has worked well for me. I also had another, the finally kicked the bucket after several years (different brand). I am always hesitant when I see a lot of bad reviews, though the positive outnumber them. Someone said HP was bought out? I am not sure anyone has one, would like input as to how it performs. I do hate when printers put primary circuit board in the ink cart. since ink is actually inexpensive. I could live with it. I am going to need a new computer, HP program says this is 12 years old lol. I never let them go beyond 3. Thanks for any help. Bruce

@brucefl, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
It’s great to hear that your OfficeJet Pro 860 has served you well—sounds like it’s been a reliable workhorse! Regarding the 9730e, I totally understand your hesitation when it comes to mixed reviews. While the positive reviews outnumber the negatives, it's always smart to do some research before making a decision.
The 9730e is designed for high-volume printing and includes features like automatic double-sided printing and smart app integration, which many users find helpful.
Regarding the concern about HP being bought out—HP remains independent and committed to innovation in the printing space, so you can feel confident about ongoing support and product development.
About the ink cartridge and circuit board setup, you’re right—this design helps with print quality and security, but it does mean that cartridge replacements are more than just about the ink. If that’s a sticking point for you, it might be worth considering alternative models.
Since you mentioned that you’ll be getting a new computer soon, it might be a good time to check for compatibility and driver support with the 9730e to ensure a smooth setup.
Thanks for considering HP, Bruce. Wishing you the best with your printer (and computer) upgrade!

I too had the HP Officejet Pro 8620 that was an amazing printer for many years until all of a sudden the “print head missing “ error appeared. I couldn’t fix the problem so I purchased the HP9730e due to its large scan bed and ability to print/scan over sized items. While the hardware specs are impressive, the functionality of the device is severely hindered by the software/firmware. The touch screen is not responsive, requiring selecting options repeatedly until it responds. The menu is difficult to navigate, unlike the 8620 and 8600 Officejets. Although it is advertised as being an “AirPrint “ printer, printing from an iOS device is limited to only using “normal” print mode - Draft (to save ink) and Best modes cause the printer to “hang” - retrying to complete the print job until I manually end it in the print queue. The issue was reported to Tech support immediately after purchasing and they determined it was a hardware problem and recommended I return and exchange it. The second one had the same problem so it was Not a hardware issue. There are so many irritations I experience with this printer (paper selection, quality selection, no BW copying, long delay in printing, etc) compared to the numerous other HP printers I’ve owned over the past 30 years that it would take a book to list them all. Needless to say, I will be choosing another brand for my next printer - possibly Epson.
