Hi @Ebcigirl,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer still indicates that the ink cartridges are empty after you’ve replaced them, here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Installation:
- Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly. They should click into place securely. Remove them and reinsert them to ensure a proper fit.
2. Remove Protective Tape:
- Ensure that any protective tape or seals on the new cartridges have been removed. Sometimes, a small piece of tape can be missed.
3. Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for about a minute, then plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes reset the ink level sensors.
4. Clean the Contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab to gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and the printer's cartridge holder. Make sure they are dry before reinserting the cartridges.
5. Check for Compatibility:
- Ensure that the cartridges you installed are compatible with your printer model. Using incorrect or counterfeit cartridges can lead to issues.
6. Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for any firmware updates for your printer on the HP support website. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility and detection issues.
7. Run Printer Diagnostics:
- Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix issues. You can download it from the HP website.
8. Try a Different Cartridge:
- If possible, try using a different new cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the printer or the cartridges themselves.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
