After replacing the cartridges in my HP Officejet Pro 6960, I am getting "Older generation Cartridge Installed" message.
I am using genuine HP 903XL cartridges.
The new cartridges are identical to the cartridges I have replaced!

Hello,
Please update the printer's firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer.
In some cases, remove the ink cartridges and reset the printer can solve the error.
- Turn on the printer.
- Before continuing, wait until the printer is idle and silent.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
- Remove the ink cartridges of the printer.
- With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord into the outlet.
NOTE: HP then recommends reconnecting the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically make it.It is possible that the printer goes through a warm-up cycle. It is also possible that the printer lights blink and the carriage moves.
- Wait until the preheat cycle and until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.
- Reinsert the ink cartridge, and then close the access door to the cartridges.
- Print a calibration page, if prompted.
- If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the back of the product.
- Try to print.
If the issue continues, clean the ink cartridge vents:
Glue residue from the label or debris on the cartridge vent might cause an error.
Open the door or lid to the cartridge access area. Wait until the carriage stops moving before continuing.
Push in the tab on a cartridge, and then pull the cartridge from the slot.
CAUTION: Do not leave the cartridges outside the printer longer than 30 minutes. Doing so can result in damage to both the printer and the cartridges. If the cartridge has the orange pull-tab attached, remove it.
Use a pin or paper clip to remove any debris or excess adhesive from the vent on top of the cartridge.
Reinsert the cartridge into its color-coded slot, and then press down on it until it snaps into place.
Repeat these steps to clean the vent on the other cartridges.
