Alignment Unsuccessful on HP Office jet 5740. I cleaned cartridges and printer heads first. Removed and reinstalled both cartridges. Pages print at an angle instead of straight.

@GlamaZ, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Alignment Issues on HP Officejet 5740!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP Officejet 5740 is printing pages at an angle despite cleaning the cartridges and printheads, as well as reinstalling the cartridges, follow these steps to attempt resolving the issue:

Check Paper Alignment:

  • Make sure the paper is loaded properly in the input tray.
  • Align a stack of paper by tapping it on a flat surface.
  • Load plain white paper into the paper tray and ensure it is pushed towards the back but not bending.
  • Adjust the paper width guides inward so that they lightly rest against the edges of the paper.

Run the Printer Alignment:

  • On the printer control panel, touch the Setup icon.
  • Touch Printer Maintenance, then touch Align Printer.
  • Follow the instructions displayed on the control panel to complete the alignment process.

Ensure Proper Ink Cartridge Replacement:

  • Open the cartridge access door by placing your fingers under one or both of the small handles on the sides of the cartridge access door and lifting it up.
  • Lightly press down on each ink cartridge to release it.
  • Remove the old ink cartridges and replace them with new, genuine HP ink cartridges, ensuring that you do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles.

Replacing an ink cartridge

Manual Alignment Process:

  • After inserting new cartridges and closing the cartridge access door, the printer should automatically calibrate and align the ink cartridges.
  • If the alignment page does not print, swipe the display to show more menu options, and then touch the Setup icon.
  • Swipe to show more options, touch Printer Maintenance, and then touch Align Printer. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
