Using Mac OS Ventura 13.6.1
Everything has been working fine until just recently on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8024. I have installed a new cyan cartridge and no cyan (blue) colour is printing. I have also tried a replacement Cyan and that didn’t print either. I did a hard restart of the printer. removed the cartridges. unplugged power from the printer and the wall. Restarted and re inserted cartridges. Still no cyan. The print quality pages shows no blue. I've cleaned the printheads.
I know someone had this issue a while back - can anyone on here help please?

Hi @TraiJay,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you've taken some initial troubleshooting steps to address the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 not printing cyan (blue) color. Since you've already tried several common solutions, let's explore a few additional steps you can take to potentially resolve the problem.
-
Check the Cyan Cartridge: Ensure that you've removed the protective tape or seal from the new cyan cartridge, as this can prevent ink from flowing properly.
-
Align the Printheads: You mentioned cleaning the printheads, but aligning them can also help improve print quality. To align the printheads, you can usually find an option in the printer's menu or settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.
-
Update the Printer Firmware: Sometimes, printer issues can be resolved through a firmware update. Visit the HP website, search for your printer model, and check for any available firmware updates. If there's an update, follow the instructions to install it.
-
Print a Diagnostic Report: Print a diagnostic report from the printer, which can help you identify if the issue is related to the cartridge, printhead, or another component. The report might show if there are any issues with the cyan ink system.
-
Manual Printhead Cleaning: If the printheads are clogged, you can try manually cleaning them. Use distilled water and a lint-free cloth or cotton swab. Gently wipe the printheads to remove any dried ink or debris. Be careful not to damage the printheads.
-
Check for Firmware Locks: Some HP printers have firmware locks that prevent the use of third-party ink cartridges. Ensure you're using genuine HP cartridges or check for any firmware locks in the printer's settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @TraiJay,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing a print quality issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
To assist better:
- Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges?
- Does the copy print out the same way?
- What's the application you are trying to print from?
- Have you tried printing from a different application or device?
While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.
Let's perform a power drain:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove the USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
Update the printer firmware
- Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
- Click here to know different methods of updating the printer firmware.
- follow the troubleshooting steps HP OfficeJet 6900, 8010, 8020, 8030 printers - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issue...
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Alden4
Thank you for your response.
I only use genuine HP cartridges (I'm a member of their print scheme) and I have two, brand new ones that I have tried to use. I have aligned and cleaned the printhead with both cyan cartridges in with varying degrees of success although I must admit, currently, I am running the 6th clean printhead function and there are 'echoes of cyan' beginning to come through albeit infiltrating every other colour in stripes now too on the page that is produced afterwards.
I wasn't sure exactly how to manually clean the printheads and I understand my model is one that you can't replace the printheads on. Seems like these printers are only designed to work for the warranty period and should almost be treated as disposable. I would expect 5 years lifetime to be more reasonable.
That said, I am grateful for your guidance and am going to persevere with both aligning and cleaning the printhead because, at the end of the day, I can see some cyan!
Thank you, TraiJay

Hi Gaya
I always use genuine HP cartridges and am a member of the HP print program.
The copy also prints out in pink rather than blue. I was just printing from a Word document. All programs are missing any cyan in them.
I have been running the align print head and clean print head functions and now that I have done this around 10 times, I am getting some blue come through although there is some colour bleeding in the other blocks on the page.
I tried to us your link to ensure I had the latest hardware installed and it returned this:
