Hi @Jimbo0207,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If all your prints from the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 are coming out red, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to identify and resolve the problem.
- Check Ink Levels: Ensure that you have sufficient ink in all the cartridges, especially the cyan (blue) and yellow cartridges. Low ink levels can lead to improper color mixing and result in prints that appear predominantly red.
- Print Quality Settings: Verify that you haven't accidentally set the printer to print in "Monochrome" or "Grayscale" mode. Adjust the print settings to color printing to ensure all colors are utilized.
- Color Settings: Check the color settings in the printer software or driver on your computer. Make sure it's set to "Automatic" or "Color," and not set to print only in red or with a dominant red hue.
- Clean Print Heads: Over time, print heads can get clogged, leading to incorrect color output. Most printers have a built-in utility to clean the print heads. Refer to your printer's manual or the HP support website for instructions on how to perform a print head cleaning.
- Check Color Cartridges Installation: Verify that the color cartridges are installed correctly in their corresponding slots. Sometimes, incorrect installation can lead to color printing issues.
- Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can cause printing problems. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.
- Test Print: Try printing a test page from the printer itself. This will help determine if the issue is related to the printer or your computer's settings.
- Check Color Management on Your Computer: If the issue persists, check your computer's color management settings. Incorrect color profiles or settings could affect the way colors are printed.
- Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Third-party or refilled cartridges may not provide the same print quality and could lead to color inconsistencies.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
