I tried to use a black 962XL cartridge that was compatible with an HP 9010. When it didn't work I discarded it and replaced it with an Official HP cartridge. I still received the message, "This printer is not designed to use continuous ink systems. To resume printing, remove continuous ink system and install original HP (or compatible} cartridges. I tried unplugging, restarting and all the other suggestions but when that didn't work, I sent back that cartridge and ordered another HP cartridge. It still doesn't work even after removing all cartridges, reinstalling the problem cartridge , unplugging the printer for 20 minutes and restarting, etc. Any more suggestions or am I out of luck?

@roadrunner19, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding incompatible cartridge!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 9010 printer has locked itself into detecting a continuous ink system, even though you've switched back to original HP cartridges. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Remove all ink cartridges from the printer.
- Unplug the printer from power and remove the power cable from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 10 minutes.
- Press and hold the Power button (if applicable) for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.
- Reinstall only original HP cartridges and check if the error persists.
2. Reset Ink Cartridge Detection
- Remove all cartridges.
- Clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth and a little distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Clean the printer’s cartridge slot contacts carefully.
- Reinstall the cartridges and restart the printer.
3. Disable HP Cartridge Protection
- If you previously enabled HP Cartridge Protection, your printer might reject even original HP cartridges.
- To check:
- Open HP Smart App or access your printer settings via a web browser (type the printer's IP address).
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Preferences > HP Cartridge Protection.
- Disable it and restart the printer.
4. Update Printer Firmware
- If your printer's firmware is outdated, it may not recognize the cartridge properly.
- Download the latest firmware from HP support website and install it.
