Hi @NICOLE1110,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it is when your printer refuses to print in black even after replacing all cartridges. Let’s walk through the most effective steps to fix this on your HP printer

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinsert the black cartridge firmly.
  • Make sure the protective tape is removed from the cartridge.
  • Check for any ink smudges or debris on the copper contacts.

2. Run Printhead Cleaning

This helps unclog dried ink:

  1. Open HP Smart App or go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer > Printing Preferences > Maintenance tab.
  3. Select Clean Printhead or Clean Ink Cartridges.
  4. Run the cleaning 2–3 times if needed.

3. Print a Diagnostic Page

  • Press and hold the Cancel + Information (i) buttons together.
  • This prints a test page showing ink flow.
  • If black is missing, it confirms a clog or cartridge issue.

4. Try a Different Black Cartridge

Even new cartridges can be defective. If possible:

  • Try another genuine HP black cartridge.
  • Avoid refilled or third-party cartridges for troubleshooting.

5. Update Firmware

  • Open HP Smart App > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
  • Check for and install any available firmware updates.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
