Blue does not print except if the object is small.  Otherwise I get reddish area with blue streaks.  I have cleaned heads and rebooted.  No help on community board, and printer out of warranty.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Print Quality Issues on your Office Jet Pro!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If the blue is not printing correctly on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, leading to reddish areas with blue streaks, here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:

  1. Check Ink Levels:

    • Ensure that the ink cartridges are not running low. You can check the ink levels from the printer control panel or the printer software on your computer. It's important to use genuine HP cartridges to get an accurate reading of ink levels.
  2. Clean Printheads:

    • Although you have already cleaned the printheads, try running a more in-depth cleaning session through your printer settings. Some printers may have a second-level cleaning option that could help.
    • Navigate to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead on the printer control panel.
  3. Run a Printhead Alignment:

    • Incorrect alignment can affect color accuracy. Perform a printhead alignment through the Tools menu of the printer.
  4. Check the Vent Area:

    • Inspect the vent area on the ink cartridges for any clogs. Use a straight pin or paperclip to clear out any adhesive blocking the vent.
  5. Check Firmware Updates:

    • Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date as updates often contain performance improvements and fixes for known issues.
  6. Replace Cartridges:

    • If possible, try replacing the blue cartridge with a new one to determine if the issue is specific to the cartridge.

  Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
