HP Tango
macOS 26.0 Tahoe

After having major difficulties with my printer cartridge, I managed to clean and re-install the black ink cartridge which worked for a while. My printing became streaky.
I decided to purchase new printer ink, and once I've installed the new HP 64 Ink Cartridge, it's been blinking orange. I've tried hard resets/unplugging/re-installing the color ink as well. The color ink seems to be printing fine, it's just the black that isn't working. Help!

Hi @lkky,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Tango printer is experiencing issues with the black ink cartridge, such as a blinking orange light, even after replacing the cartridge, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that the ink cartridge you installed is compatible with your HP Tango printer. For the HP Tango, you should be using an HP 64 or 64XL ink cartridge.

2. Inspect and Reinstall the Cartridge

  1. Turn on the printer and open the ink cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the black ink cartridge by pressing down lightly and pulling it out.
  3. Inspect the cartridge for any protective tape or stickers that may not have been removed. Ensure the vents are not blocked.
  4. Reinsert the black ink cartridge by sliding it into its slot and pressing it until it clicks into place.

3. Check for Blocked Vents

Ensure the cartridge vents are not clogged:

  • Hold the cartridge with the nozzles facing down and check the vent area on the top of the ink cartridge.
  • If clogged, use a pin to gently remove any adhesive or buildup.

4. Align the Printer

Improper alignment can cause printing issues. You can align the printer through the HP Smart app:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your macOS device.
  • Select your printer, then go to "Printer Settings" or "Tools."
  • Look for the "Align Printer" option and follow the instructions

5. Run a Printhead Cleaning

Using the HP Smart app, perform a printhead cleaning to resolve any streaks or missing blacks:

  1. Open the HP Smart app.
  2. Select your printer, then go to "Printer Settings" or "Tools."
  3. Find the "Clean Printhead" option and follow the prompts.

6. Check for Firmware Updates

Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date, which can help fix cartridge recognition issues:

  1. Go to the HP Tango series | HP® Support.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
