Today, I tried to use my printer for a class assignment for the first time in a while. I attempted to print of reference letters and my resume. My resume has both color and black text. When I would print it out only the colored text would show. I bought brand new ink cartridges, and still, no black ink would show up. I have tried cleaning the printhead multiple times, I followed a guide on this community support that involved removing the cartridges and unplugging the printer from the wall. Still nothing. Please help before I smash my printer.

Hi @ewise413

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you've been thorough in troubleshooting your printer issue, but the black ink still isn't cooperating. Here are some additional steps you can try:

  1. Check Ink Levels:
Ensure the black ink cartridge is properly filled and not defective. Sometimes even new cartridges can have issues.

  2. Inspect Cartridge Contacts:
Remove the black ink cartridge and check for any debris or damage on the contacts. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth.

  3. Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle:
Access the printer's maintenance settings and run the printhead cleaning process multiple times. This can help clear any stubborn clogs.

  4. Update Printer Firmware:
Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility or functionality issues.

  5. Align the Printer:
Use the printer's alignment tool to ensure the cartridges are properly calibrated.

  6. Test with Another Cartridge:
If possible, try using a different black ink cartridge to rule out cartridge-specific issues.

Let me know how it goes!
