After I had installed the new cartridges I did my printing without problems for days, and today all of a sudden I got the message "Remove and reinstall the indicated (black) ink cartridge...." . I did it a couple of times and also tried the automatic clean procedure that did not go through. The same message comes up and I cannot do any printing either Black nor Color, Can you please help? Thanks

@Marinaccia, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your black ink cartridge!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If you are experiencing an ink cartridge error on your HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Reset the Printer:
- Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the power source.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
- Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
Remove and Inspect Cartridges:
- Open the door to access the ink cartridges.
- Remove the indicated cartridge.
- Check for any protective tape and ensure it is removed from the cartridge contacts.
- Inspect the copper-colored contact on the cartridge for any debris or damage.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Wipe the copper-colored contact on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
- Wipe the contacts inside the printhead (cartridge slot) with a lint-free cloth to remove any debris.
- Reinsert the cartridge into its slot and ensure it snaps into place firmly.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer firmware is up to date by visiting HP's Firmware Update Page.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey, I followed the recommended procedure, but unfortunately the problem is still there and I keep receiving the same message. I also checked the firmware that is updated automatically (current version is NSM2CN2022AR).
What else can I do?
Thanks, Marinaccia

@Marinaccia, thank you for getting back to me!
Please follow this step:
Replace the Problem Cartridge
If cleaning and reinstalling the cartridge do not resolve the issue, you may need to replace the problem cartridge with a new one. Replacement cartridges are part of the HP Instant Ink subscription and can be obtained through HP Instant Ink support.
