Hi @JRH47,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the black ink in your HP Officejet Pro 6960 All-In-One Printer is no longer printing while the colors are fine, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the black ink cartridge has enough ink remaining. If it's low or empty, replace the cartridge with a new one.
  • Clean Print Head: Use the printer's maintenance functions to clean the print head. This can often resolve issues with clogged nozzles or dried ink. Follow the printer's manual or on-screen instructions for the specific steps to perform a print head cleaning.
  • Print Quality Diagnostic: Many printers have a diagnostic or test page that can be printed to help identify and resolve print quality issues. Check your printer's manual for instructions on how to print a diagnostic page and interpret the results.
  • Align Print Head: Sometimes, misalignment of the print head can cause printing issues. Most printers have an alignment function that can be accessed through the printer's menu or control panel. Follow the instructions to align the print head.
  • Check Printer Settings: Make sure that the printer settings in your computer's print dialog box are correctly configured to use the black ink for printing. Sometimes, settings may accidentally be set to use only color ink.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers and software installed for your printer. You can usually download these from the HP website or use the HP Smart app to update them.
  • Replace Ink Cartridge: If cleaning the print head and aligning it doesn't solve the issue, try replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one. It's possible that the cartridge may be faulty or depleted.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue of the black ink not printing on your HP Officejet Pro 6960 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
