After my printer received an update, the black cartridge isn't recognized. When I perform a reset, the black cartridge is recognized and a test page is printed. After that, the black cartridge flashes again. The cartridge is genuine from HP.

@GORAX, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Black Ink Cartridge Issues on HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3635!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3635 printer is not recognizing the genuine black ink cartridge after a firmware update, you can follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Reset the Printer

  1. Turn on the printer: Press the power button if the printer is not already on.
  2. Disconnect the power cord: While the printer is powered on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds: Allow the printer to sit idle for about a minute.
  4. Reconnect the power cord: Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer: Press the power button to turn the printer back on.

Step 2: Check Ink Cartridges

  1. Replace non-HP or refilled cartridges: Replace any non-HP or refilled cartridges with genuine HP cartridges.
  2. Check ink levels: Very low ink levels can cause recognition issues. Check and ensure the cartridges have sufficient ink levels.

Step 3: Clean the Ink Cartridge and Electrical Contacts

  1. Turn on the printer: Press the power button if the printer is not already on.
  2. Open the cartridge access door: Wait until the carriage moves to the center of the printer and becomes idle and silent.
  3. Remove the black ink cartridge: Press down lightly to release it, then pull it out of its slot.
  4. Clean the contacts: Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and in the carriage.
  5. Reinsert the cartridge: Slide the cartridge back into its slot and press it forward until it clicks into place.
  6. Close the cartridge access door: Ensure the door is securely latched.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
