I have just bought and fitted new (i.e. in the box and the foil packaging) HP black and tr-colour inks.

However, the black is not printing, only the colour.

I have left the ink to settle overnight. I have cleaned the area where the ink comes out of the cartridge (but not where it goes into the printer itself). I have checked that the ink levels are correct (they are full, as you would expect from a new cartridge).

I am using HP paper that I bought from Sainsbury's a week ago.

The machine is a few years old, and so may well have given up!, but this is my last option having done all of the things advised to me here:

@Michael_C_Lndn, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for the detailed post. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.

If you have tried the steps mentioned in this document - Black Ink Not Printing and Other Print Quality Issues, and the issue persists, this could be a hardware issue.

If you have tried with more than 1 black ink cartridge, it could be the printer. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
