I have bought an official black HP replacement cartridge, inserted it into my HP photosmart 6520 printer and it doesn’t work.
The other 3 cartridges are empty but I do not wish to replace them as I intend to just print in black.
Do all the other cartridges have to have some ink in them for the black cartridge to work on its own?

Hello @Jez13 , how are you ?
Yes, they must have paint to lubricate the hoses and also the print head.
If incomplete, it will not print.
Best regards

Thanks for the reply Fabio but not what I wanted to hear. Nowadays I just need to print black so having to buy all the other colours is a nuisance and expensive, it's going to be cheaper to just buy another bargain printer that will print black on its own. So now the present HP printer is just a heap of junk taking up space on my desk. Grrrr!
Thanks again anyway.

Hello @Jez13
I understand, but this model does not print in single mode, as it depends on all the inks and the print head to print correctly.
Best regards
