@Katie070, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your OfficeJet Pro 8028e is not printing in black even though the ink levels appear sufficient. Let’s walk through some steps to resolve this issue:

Check Ink Cartridge Health

  1. Make sure the black ink cartridge is genuine HP and properly installed.
  2. Remove and reinsert the black cartridge to ensure good contact.
  3. Check for any ink clogs or dried ink on the cartridge nozzles. Gently clean with a lint-free cloth if needed.

Print a Test Page

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Reports > Print Quality Report.
  • If black is missing or streaked, proceed to the next step.

Run Printhead Cleaning

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  2. Run the cleaning cycle and check the print quality.
  3. If needed, repeat the cleaning up to 2–3 times.

Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause printing issues. Update your printer:

  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • Or use the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device.

Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn the printer on.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
