I had an E0 error code come up and printer wasn’t prinking clearly it had patches missing , the black was working but it was just missing some parts out.

i then installed new ink cartridges and now the black isn’t working at all, not even on paper alignment, the only time it will work is the report as if nothing is wrong.
I went along and dond all the cleaning head and smear options.

still the black isn’t working at all, and i’m not getting any error codes or anything to say it’s got any issues in the report.

confused and worried as i need it to work urgently, anyone have this problem and can give any tips or advice?

Hi @Shanaz_92

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue where the black ink isn't printing at all, even though your printer is showing no error codes or messages. You're also getting some weird behavior where the black ink works only on a report, but not for regular print jobs.

Here's what might be going on and some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

Step 1: Double-Check the Ink Cartridges

The fact that you replaced the cartridges but the black ink still isn't working suggests there might be a few possibilities:

Cartridge Defect: It's possible that the new black ink cartridge you installed is defective or empty. Even new cartridges can sometimes be faulty, or they may not have been properly filled.

  • What to do: Try installing a different black cartridge (if you have one) or test the cartridge in another printer, if possible, to rule out the cartridge itself being the issue.

Cartridge Installation: Ensure the new cartridges were installed correctly. The black cartridge needs to be fully seated and locked into place to work properly.

  • What to do: Remove the cartridge, inspect it for any protective tape (especially the small contacts), and reinstall it, making sure it clicks securely into place.

Step 2: Perform a Clean Printhead (Deep Cleaning)

It sounds like you've already done some head cleaning, but just to be sure, let's run a deep clean or printhead cleaning process:

Run a Deep Clean: Many printers, including HP, have an option in the printer settings or software for deep cleaning the printhead. This will push more ink through the printhead to clear any clogs.

  • On your printer, go to Settings or Tools > Maintenance or Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead or Clean Cartridges.
  • If you’re using HP Smart on your computer or mobile device, go to the Maintenance or Settings section of the app and run a cleaning cycle.

Run a Printhead Alignment: If the printer isn’t printing correctly or is missing parts of text, running an alignment will help. Some printers have an alignment option in the maintenance settings that ensures the printhead is aligned properly to the cartridges.

Step 3: Check the Ink Level in the Printer Software

While you’re troubleshooting, make sure that the printer software on your computer is showing that there is ink in the cartridges and that the black ink isn't running low.

  1. Open HP Smart or the printer software on your PC or Mac.
  2. Check the ink levels displayed in the software.
  3. If the black ink is shown as full but still not printing, it might be a hardware issue, but if it's empty, try installing a new cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
