HP Inkjet 4155e. I was making copies when printer stopped printing black text. I ran off 5 pages with no problem before this happened. I printed a test page from my computer and it printed both black and color. I tried making copies again and there is no black text at all. I changed the black cartridge with a brand new unopened HP 67 XL with the same results. I have turned the printer off and on twice but that has not done a thing to correct this problem.

@cappy59, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP InkJet 4155e!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Inkjet 4155e is having trouble printing black text specifically when making copies, even though black ink works when printing from the computer. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue:

Check for Firmware or Software Issues

  1. Update Printer Firmware – Go to HP's support website and check if there’s a firmware update for your printer.
  2. Reset the Printer – Unplug the printer from power, wait for about 60 seconds, and plug it back in.

Clean the Printhead

Since black ink works when printing from the computer but not when copying, there may be a clog in the printhead:

  1. Use the Printer's Cleaning Utility:
    • Open HP Smart App or Printer Settings on your computer.
    • Navigate to Tools > Printhead Cleaning and run a cleaning cycle.
  2. Manual Cleaning (if needed):
    • Remove the black ink cartridge.
    • Gently wipe the printhead (the copper contacts) with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
    • Let it dry before reinserting.

Check Copy Settings & Scanner Functionality

Since copying relies on the scanner:

  1. Try a Different Document – The original document might be too light or unclear.
  2. Change Copy Settings:
    • Increase the copy contrast in the printer settings.
    • Try black-and-white mode instead of color or grayscale.
  3. Test the Scanner:
    • Scan a document to your computer and check if black text appears in the scanned image.
    • If the scan is blank or missing black, the scanner may be malfunctioning.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes and plug it back in.
  3. Turn it on and try copying again.

If the issue persists after these steps, let me know, and we can try more advanced troubleshooting! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
