Started printing blank pages. I installed an new HP brand cartridge and have followed all the troubleshooting ideas. The only thing left is to update the firmware, but have spent the past 30 min online trying to figure out how to do that. the virtual assistant is not functioning and the update drive using the laptop linked to the printer is also timing out. I'm not sure what else the try. The HP Smart App is showing the blank ink cartridge is full and I'm only trying to print black ink content,.

Hi @dugmeister
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Let's go over some steps to try and resolve the issue, including updating your firmware:
1. Check for Any Ink Blockages or Clogs
Even though your ink cartridge is full, it’s possible that the printhead could be clogged. This can happen even with new cartridges.
- Open the printer's access panel and remove the ink cartridge.
- Check the printhead area for any dried ink or debris.
- Gently clean the printhead with a soft cloth lightly moistened with water or a printhead cleaning solution. Be careful not to touch the contacts on the cartridge or printhead.
- Reinstall the cartridge and try printing again.
2. Perform a Printhead Cleaning
Most HP printers, including the OfficeJet 8022, have a built-in printhead cleaning function:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance or Tools.
- Look for the Clean Printhead or Cartridge Cleaning option and follow the on-screen instructions.
- After cleaning, try printing again to see if the issue is resolved.
3. Update Printer Firmware
Updating your printer's firmware can fix issues with the printing process, including problems with recognizing ink or handling print jobs. If the HP Smart App or online methods are not working for you, here’s an alternative way to manually update the firmware:
Method 1: Update Firmware Through Printer's Control Panel
- Make sure your printer is connected to Wi-Fi.
- On your printer's control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance.
- Look for Firmware Update and select it. If an update is available, it will prompt you to install it.
Method 2: Update Firmware Using HP Smart App
Method 3: Update Using HP's Website
If you can’t get it through the app, you can try updating your printer directly from the HP support website:
- Go to the HP Support Website.
- Search for your HP OfficeJet 8022 printer.
- Under the Drivers & Downloads section, download the latest firmware update for your printer model.
- Follow the instructions to install the firmware update directly on your printer.
4. Check Printer Settings
If you’re trying to print black-only content, ensure that your color settings are not interfering. Sometimes the printer might try to print color pages, even if you only have black content in the document.
- Open the Print Settings dialog from your computer (when sending a print job).
- Check that the "Print in Black & White" or "Grayscale" option is selected.
- If you see an option for "Color" or "Auto", try switching it to Black and White and attempt printing again.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
